Sony unveils Android wristwatch

As if having the world at your fingertips isn’t enough, Sony have developed a way to attach it to your arm.

The new SmartWatch was released today by Sony – a wristwatch powered by Android software, which connects wirelessly to the internet by hooking into the user’s smartphone via Bluetooth with a 10m range of connectivity.

SmartWatch features an ultra-responsive touch display, a 36mm screen and allows users to check tweets, emails, check the weather and read a map – anything as long as there is an app for it.

According to Sony, mini-apps, tailored to SmartWatch devices, are already available at the Google Play online shop.

The watch can also be used to check incoming calls from the smartphone, allowing users to screen their calls without even taking their phone out of their pocket.

“SmartWatch provides access to live content and entertainment on the go,” said Sony Mobile Communications customer unit president Paul Hamnett, who billed it as the first in a series of gadgets to expand the smartphone’s reach.

The high-tech gadget can be purchased from Sony stores and online for NZD$210.

It also tells the time.

50 Years of Watches in Space for Omega Timepiece

Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Omega announced the Speedmaster “First Omega in Space” numbered edition chronograph, a near replica of the watch worn by Mercury astronaut Wally Schirra on his 1962 spaceflight. Schirra’s Mercury-Atlas 8 mission was the third time an American orbited the Earth and the fifth U.S. manned spaceflight.

Schirra, who passed away in 2007, was the first astronaut to wear an Omega watch in space, more than two years before NASA adopted the Speedmaster as its approved timepiece. Since then, astronauts — including the dozen Apollo moonwalkers — and cosmonauts have worn Omega watches on their missions.

The Nerdiest Watch In The World

It’s the Click watch and it’s a standard digital timekeeper with either DIP switches or a tiny rotating switch that you use to set the features. Thats right – you need a small stylus or paperclip to look at the date on this thing.

I get a kick out of nearly everything about this watch except that I can’t imagine when anyone would wear this in real life. The band looks like an IDE cable and it comes in multiple colors and styles including midnight black (for those late night LAN parties). It costs about $150-$175 and is available now at Watchismo.

Click Watches have ingeniously re-appropriated these ‘retro-tronics’ into an entirely new way to show digital watch functions. Each mechanical switch activates a different function of the watch as seen in the diagrams in the product pages. Functions ranging from bar graph metered time display, 12 hour and 24 hour digital time display, month, date, day of week and backlight. Stainless steel casing 42mm x 35mm.

Infiniti Limited Edition BR02-8 Carbon Case Watch Launched

Infiniti, the luxury performance automotive brand from Nissan, has unveiled the Limited Edition BR02-8 Infiniti Carbon Case Purple 8 Pro Dial wristwatch (that will take a while to remember, won’t it?), engineered by the Swiss specialist timekeeper specialist Bell & Ross.

The elegant watch has been designed to celebrate the collaboration between Infiniti and Bell & Ross. According to the official statement, only 200 examples from the BR02-8 Infiniti Carbon Case Purple 8 Pro Dial series are available for purchase from any of the Infiniti Centre worldwide including the 45 outlets across Europe.

The timepiece is sporty but subtle, with the seconds pointer and eighth digit which sitting on a matt black dial, sport a photo-luminescent finish in the same distinct purple colourused by the automaker Infiniti across the world. The number ‘eight’ is a symbol of luck in Asia, whilst also resembling the mathematical sign of infinity and the automaker’s badge when rotated on its side – a fitting symbol, given the automaker’s name. As a reminder of just how special this watch is, the steel case back has been beautifully engraved with the Infiniti signature, discretely complementing the Bell & Ross insignia.

“The Limited Edition BR02-8 Infiniti Carbon Case Purple 8 Pro Dial wristwatch is a true celebration of our continued association with Bell & Ross, for which we are very proud. The new timepiece effortlessly embodies the unique qualities of both brands to offer discerning customers a rare and highly sought-after addition to their collection,” explains Andy Palmer, Infiniti’s Executive Vice President.

Portable Media Wristwatch

Portable media wristwatch

DESPITE some initial similarities, this is definitely not another iPod nano strap, such as the TikTok or LunaTik, but Chinavision’s new Timesnap MP3/MP4 multimedia player wristwatch. Although not touchscreen-based, it offers a number of features including music, image, text and video file playback, along with an FM radio, at a reasonable price.

The Timesnap watch features a flexible strap and 1.5-inch display in a plastic casing, which looks weather-resistant. According to the product page, it can be worn either on a wrist, on the upper arm, or clipped somewhere to the user’s bag or clothes. It supports music file formats such as MP3, WMA and WAV, and can record audio as well. It also plays MP4 and AVI video files, as well as JPEG, BMP and GIF graphic files and TXTs.

It is operated via four buttons (a pair on either side of the housing), and comes with a calendar and a feature that displays lyrics while playing an MP3 file. It’s sold with a 4GB TF card, and supports cards up to 8GB. Its only connection port is a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which is also utilized as a PC-connection for file transfer, and for charging via a 3.5 mm to USB cable.

The best thing about the device that it only has four function – buttons-up, down, on, and ok – which makes it very uncomplicated to use. The device comes with a 4GB TF card with memory expandable up to 8GB, which allows users to use the watch as a portable memory stick without having to carry around an extra thumb drive.

Timesnap comes with a full color 1.5-inch screen which is housed inside a Weather-resistant plastic casing. The device also has a 3.5mm audio jack and USB port and 3.5 mm stereo earphones as well as the drivers for the device are included in the package. BOSS Watches Launch Cowes Week ‘Regatta’ Timepiece

BOSS Watches Launch Cowes Week ‘Regatta’ Timepiece

The release has been made to mark the brand’s status as official timing partner for the forthcoming Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week sailing event that begins on Saturday.

The Regatta is the first timepiece in the Boss Watches’ collection that has been designed with specific sailing technology. Amongst its components are a race-timing chronograph movement with functions including a countdown and an audible signal sounding every minute, enabling the vessel’s skipper to keep track of time during a race.

Other notable features include a strap made from silicon rubber, a case designed in high-grade stainless steel, and a date display at 4 o’clock. The timepiece is water resistant to 10ATM.

Sailing is a familiar territory for BOSS Watches, having been involved with the sport since 2003, through the sponsorship of renowned solo sailor Alex Thomson, the youngest skipper to ever win a Round-the-World race.

Mr Thomson will be sailing in the Artemis Challenge at Cowes this year, as well as entertaining guests and celebrities on board the boat, including British actor Ewan McGregor.

Since its inauguration in 1826, Cowes Week has become one of the UK’s longest running and most successful sporting events, staging up to 40 daily races for around 1,000 boats, making it the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world.

Corum Golden Tourbillon Panoramique Grey Sapphire Watch

The Golden Tourbillon Panoramique Grey Sapphire Watch by Corum is a limited edition of only five pieces and one could guess it’s because of the fragility of the synthetic sapphire crystals. During the fabrication process when cut into organic shapes it causes a lot of stress and the sapphires easily break so the finished result if mesmerizing but the actual process to get there is painstaking. The manually wound tourbillon movement with 90 hour power reserve has main  plate and bridges that are all in sapphire which is an amazing feat. The case is made of 18k white gold with 309 diamonds and four sapphire crystals. Jaws will drop when the price is announced on this luxurious watch. $TBA.

Limited Edition Graham Chronofighter Watch Unveiled

Limited Edition Graham Chronofighter Oversize Mansory Watch Unveiled

We’ve already gotten used to exotic automakers offering a wristwatch to go with their four-wheeled creations, but now we are talking about an aftermarket company that decided it was time to do the same thing for their rich clientele.

The company in question is Mansory, who have teamed up with Graham London, the same watchmaker that makes custom wristwatches for the Mercedes GP team.

The result is the Chronofighter Oversize wristwatch, which will be offered in a limited run of just 50 units, at the price of EUR8,900 (about USD12,500 at the current exchange rate). The self-winding automatic chronograph developed by Graham, is exclusively available from Mansory or one of its world-wide sales partners.

The watch comes with a 47 mm steel case diameter and the left hand fast-action start /stop trigger, and the dial is made of carbon, a material typically used for sportscars.

The “Clous de Paris” decorated steel bezel echoes the artistic performances of Mansory concept cars. On the case back, a smoked see-through sapphire crystal with Mansory logo, allows an insight into the clockwork Calibre G1734 with 48 hours power reserve. The black rubber strap is “Clous de Paris” decorated and adorned with the Graham and Mansory logos.

“The co-operation with GRAHAM-LONDON derives from my long-term friendship with Eric Loth, founder and board member of GRAHAM-LONDON. His passion for dynamic automobiles and my enthusiasm for high-quality chronographs are perfectly combined. The GRAHAM MANSORY Chronofighter Oversize confirms this in a very impressive way,“ said Kourosh Mansory, CEO of the MANSORY Holding & Design GmbH.
